Passive voice of yes/no type questions,Wh-type questions and Modalsverbs :-

Definition of active voice :-

The person or thing denoted by the subject does something or  in other words,is  the doer of the action.(कर्ता द्वारा इंगित व्यक्ति या वस्तु द्वारा कुछ कार्य किया जाता है )

Examples -

1. Meera  helps Krishna.

2. Mohan is eating food.

इसका structure है  - Subject+Verb+Object

Definition of passive voice :-

In this voice  something is done to the person or thing denoted by the subject(इस वाच्य में किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु पर अन्य व्यक्ति या वस्तु द्वारा कार्य किया जाता है )  

Examples -

1.Krishna is helped by Meera.

2. Food is being eaten by Mohan.

इसलिए structure होगा ----

Object+Helping verb+3rd form of main verb+by+Subject

अतः हम कह सकते है कि --

Voice is that form of a verb which shows whether what is denoted by the subject does something or has something done to it.

अर्थात वाच्य क्रिया का वह रूप है,जिससे यह पता चलता है कि कर्ता जो इंगित किया गया है,वह कुछ कार्य करता है या उससे कुछ किया गया है|

सरल शब्दों में कहें तो  passive voice का प्रयोग तब किया जाता है जब हम subject से ज्यादा जोर object पर देना चाहते हो|यानि कार्य ज्यादा prominent होता है ,कर्ता की अपेक्षा |

General Rules:-

1. Passive voice बनाते समय active voice के  subject और object की position interchanged हो जाते है|

2. verb form change हो जाता है|

3. subject के पहले by लगाया जाता है|

4.यदि subject / object कोई pronoun है तो उसका भी form change हो जाता है|

Examples:-

1. I will beat him.( active)

He will be beaten by me.(passive)

2. She has not completed this.( active)

This has not been completed by her.(passive)

5.Helping verbs tense के अनुसार प्रयुक्त होती है|

6.Main verb का हमेशा 3rd form अर्थात past participle form प्रयोग किया जाता है|

7.यदि subject अज्ञात/ अस्पष्ट (unknown / vague) हो तो ,या फिर subject सुपरिचित / जाना हुआ (very well known / understood) हो तो इन दोनों condition में  by + subject को नहीं लिखा जाता है|

Examples:-

Active-1.They broke the jar.

Passive-The jar was broken.

Active-2.Somebody has cut the tree.

Passive-The tree has been cut.

Active-3 People hate liars

Passive- Liars are hated

Active-4 The police will arrest you.

Passive-You will be arrested.

Active ---Somebody has stolen my pen.

Passive---My pen has been stolen.

Active--They asked me my name.

Passive---I was asked my name.

Active---People speak English all over the world.

Passive---English is spoken all over the world.

 Only a transitive verb can be used in the passive voice.

Intransitive verb का passive नहीं बनता है| जैसे --- go एक intransitive verb है---

He is gone.

ये  passive नहीं है अपितु इसका sense है----he has gone.

इसी तरह other Examples है ---

He is come.

 He is arrived

कुछ ऐसे भी transitive verbs है जिनके active और passive form same होते है जैसे---

1.These mangoes tastes sour.

 2.The rose smells sweet.

 3.At last the play reads well.

 4.The cakes eat short and crisp.

8.Tense के 12 verb forms में से केवल 8 का ही passive में change होता है|शेष चार-

1.Present perfect continuous

2.Past perfect continuous

3. Future continuous

4.Future perfect continuous

इनका passive voice नहीं बनता है|

यहाँ हम संक्षिप्त में सभी tense के 8 भागो का दो-दो, एक singular subject का और एक plural subject का examples लेंगे, ताकि आप इसे अच्छे से समझ  सके|

 

1.Simple present --

order = object +is /am /are +verb third form +by +subject

Active-.Ram loves Sita.

Passive- Sita is loved by Ram.

Active-The boys fly kites.

Passive- Kites are flown by the boys.

 

2.Simple past --

order = object + was /were+ third form of verb +by +subject

Active-The peon opened the gate.

Passive -  The gate was opened by the peon.

Active -We helped you.

Passive -You were helped by us.

 

3.Simple future --

order= object +shall /will +be +third form of the verb +by +subject

Active-He will read a book.

Passive-A book will be read by him.

Active -We shall eat apples.

Passive-Apples will be eaten by us.

 

4.Present continuous tense---

order= object +am/ is /are +being +third form of verb+ by +subject

Active ---You are collecting Stamps.

Passive-Stamps are being collected by you.

Active ---He is making a kite.

Passive---A kite is being made by him.

 

 5.Past continuous tense ---

order=object +was /were +being+ third form of verb+ by+ subject

Active --She was making dolls.

Passive --Dolls were being made by her.

Active --You were throwing the ball.

Passive-- The ball was being thrown by you.

 

6.Present perfect ---

order=object+ had /have +been +third form of verb +by +subject

Active--- I have bought a car.

Passive--- A car has been bought  by me.

Active ---He has written three books.

Passive ---Three books had been written by him.

  

7.Past perfect ---

order= object+ had been+ third form of verb +by +subject

Active ---The peon had rung the bell.

Passive ---The bell had been rung by the peon.

Active ---She had cooked the dinner.

Passive ---The dinner had been cooked by her.

 

8. Future perfect ----

Order= objects +shall / will +have + third form of verb +by +subject

Active ---The servant will have rung the bell.

Passive ---The bell will have been rung by the servant.

Active ---We shall have played football.

Passive ---Football have been played by us.

 

Passive voice of interrogatives:-

1.When a questions begins with do / does/ did /will /shall, the sentence structure in passive voice is-----

A form of be (is /are /was /were )+object +third form of verb +by+ subject

Active----Do they speak English?

Passive---Is English spoken by them?

Active----Does he cut trees?

Passive---Are trees cut by him ?

Active----Did you invite him?

Passive---Was he invited?

Active----Did he abuse you?

Passive---Were you abused by him?

2.If the questions is present /past perfect form or with a modal auxiliary, the form of the verb is -----

Has/ have/ had ,modal auxiliary + object +be+ third form of verb+ by+ subject

Active----Had the boy boys broken the furnitures?

Passive---Had the furnitures been broken by the boys?

Active----Have we won the match?

Passive---Have the match been won by us?

Active----Has he bought a car?

Passive---Has a car been bought by him?

Active----Can we send this parcel?

Passive---Can this pearcel be sent?

Active----She might have passed the exam.

Passive---The exam might have been passed by her .

Active----They ought not to have told a lie.

Passive---A lie ought not to have been told by them.

Active----They should have helped the boy.

Passive---The boy should have been helped by them.

Active---- I may eat an orange.

Passive---An orange may be eaten by me.

Active----May he buy a car?

Passive---May a car be bought by him?

Active----You should buy this car.

Passive---This car should be bought by you.

Active---- She might finish the task.

Passive---The task might be finished by her.

Active----You ought to clean this room.

Passive---This room ought to be cleaned by you.

Active----Must I study the book?

Passive---Must  this book be studied by me.

Active---- You must return the loan.

Passive---The loan must be returned by you.

Active----They can do it .

Passive---It can be done .

Active----You could sell your bike.

Passive--- Your bike could be sold.

Active----You may make a donation.

Passive---A donation may be made.

Active----You all have to finish this project by the end of  this month.

Passive---This project has to be finished by the end of this month.

Active----You should have told me that yesterday.

Passive--- I should have been told that yesterday.

Active---- He must have not paid the money.

Passive---The money must not have been paid by them.

Active----I may not have eaten the meal.

Passive---The meal may not have been eaten by me.

 

3.In questions; questions words (starting with Why,What,whose etc.) they are put in passive forms as follows-----

Question word+ helping verbs+ objects+ 3rd form of verb+ by +subject

Active----Where have you bought this pen?

Passive--where has this pen been bought by you ?

Active----when do they deliver the mail?

Passive--- when is the mail delivered ?

Active----what did you buy?

Passive ---what was bought by you ?

4.For a question starting with who the passive  form is ------

By whom +helping verb +object+ third form of verb +other words

Active----who brings medicine for you?

Passive ---By whom is medicine brought for you?

Active----Who did this?

Passive--- By whom was this done ?

Active----Who broke the record ?

Passive --By whom was the record broken ?


Passive of negative sentences------

 

इसका rule affirmative जैसे ही है,केवल helping verbs और past participle के बीच not लगाना है जैसे----

order = object +helping verb +not +third form of verb+ by+ subject

Active---We do not hate the poor.

Passive---The poor is not hated by us.

Active---He did not kill the rates.

Passive---The rates were not killed by him.

Active---She does not hide the truth.

Passive---The truth is not hidden by her.

Active---They will not light the lamps.

Passive---The lamps will not be lighted by them.

Active---He was not helping me.

Passive---I was not being helped by him.

Active- They have not done their works.

Passive-Their work have not been done by them.

Active--He has not sold his car.

Passive--His car has been not sold .

Active--You were not singing a song.

Passive--A song was not being sung by you.

Active--He is not writing a letter.

Passive--A letter is not being written by him.

Active-- We are not celebrating his birthday.

Passive-- His birthday is not being celebrated by us.

 

Passive voice of imperative sentences---

 

Imperative sentence starts with the first form of the verb. its passive voice is made by using following structure------

 Let+object +be +third form of verb +other words

Active--Put the box here.

Passive--Let the box be put here .

Active--Don't open the box .

Passive --Let the box not be opened.

Passive--- Let the door be opened.

Active--Shut up your mouth.

Passive -----Let your mouth be shut up.
